SILVAN 2024 Victoria:

IMPORTANT INFO:

28.06.2024 Silvan is open again

Forestry has taken down the gates and all east runs are accessible again. These include Temple of Zoom, JJ's, The Downhill, Bakers Dozen and Twisted Sister.

All trails currently dry and grippy 28.06.2024. Winterriding at its best. Get to Silvan while the riding is great !!!!

Acess to Lyre Lyre and Tchans downhills from Olinda Creek Road. Both trails dry as of 28.06.2024 Lyre Lyre can still be a bit slippery especially towards the bottom. For experienced riders only.

Tchans is an old school downhill with lots of fun switchbacks surly the best value for the amount of climbing time and duration of downhill. Tchans a bit overgrown in sections but very grippy and dry. Some trees down as of 28.06.2024.

Other Silvan News:

Secret of Silvan is truly out and I suspect closures at Lysterfield due to Storm damage beginning of 24 made a lot of riders look at Silvan.

Due to the larger amount of riders some trails have been bashed hard and ruts and brake bumbs are common. (makes the trails even more interesting some might argue)

This all being said, 2024 is looking excellent at Silvan and ,IOHO, trails are still the best intermediate to advanced singletrack option east of Melbourne.

The Silvan Down Hills:

Make sure your brakes are in good nick cause you are in for a treat!!!

Trails like the newly re-built “JJ’s” and advanced “Lyre Lyre” are still for the furious and air-born whilst more gentle “Temple of Zoom”, “Into The Valley below” and “Top Gun” still kick ass.

Considering the "Downhill" was similar to "Tchans" not that long ago it is a real indicator for the change in Silvan.

"Downhill" has turned into a quite fast, wide at times well used DH flow trail, good fun intermediate option.

The old school "Tchans" is an excellent longer more mellow intermediate descent. An excellent slightly techy XC trail which keeps you thinking all the way.

On the other Side of Silvan ”Bottle caps” still rules the DH roost and will keep most riders on their toes. (and brakes).

All downs are relatively short and pack a punch, most riders (but the most extreme) will find some challenge at Silvan. There is a wide range between “Temple of Zoom” and “Lyre Lyre” on the other side of the scale.

Climbing at Silvan:

With all these great downs at Silvan and no real possibility of shuttles there sure is a shitload of climbing to be done. (XC and E-bikers rejoice! Us not so much, expect some @#%$)

On top of this, climbing is made even more challenging on hot days as favorite up-trails “Bakers Dozen“ and “Twisted Sisters” lost most of their shade cover in the 2021 storm.

The “Covid Climb” also offers another fast and hard up-climb option from the bottom of “Valley below” downhill all the way back up for more DH fun.

Climb up to “JJ’s” has been slightly re-directed since the Storm is now actually a bit easier as new entry cut out a few metres of tedious climbing.

Silvan sure makes you work for the excellent downs, nothing comes free here but that is what makes Silvan Silvan and we love it.
